With the ongoing heat wave in the Greater Montreal area, we remind residents to take extra precautions to protect themselves and loved ones from the extreme temperatures.
Here are a few ways to stay safe:
- Drink water regularly, don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
- Spend a few hours each day in an air-conditioned or cool location.
- Take a refreshing shower or bath or cool down with a wet towel.
- Limit physical activity, especially outdoors.
- Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing.
- Keep in touch with family and friends, particularly those more vulnerable to the heat.
- Close windows, curtains, and blinds when the sun is strongest.
- Limit the use of heat-producing appliances (stove, oven, dryer, TV, lights, etc.).
- Avoid alcoholic, caffeinated, or sugary drinks, which can lead to dehydration.
