Special pickup is a paid service the Town provides to collect items prohibited in regular garbage pickup, including construction material and permanent household fixtures (sinks, toilets, etc.).

Procedure

  1. Place all materials by the curb before contacting Public Works; all construction materials must be placed in durable construction bags and cannot exceed 35 pounds each.
  2. Contact Public Works
  3. After making a special pickup request, a Public Works representative will evaluate the cost of the pickup based on the type and volume of materials. Please note that there is a minimum charge of $20 for all pickups. A form with the total cost of the pickup will be handed over to you or left in your mailbox if no one is home.
  4. Payment can then be made by cash, cheque (payable to the Town of Montreal West), or debit at Town Hall. Town Hall will notify Public Works once the payment has been received.

Please note that the material must be placed at curbside for pickup, under no circumstances do our employees collect material from the resident’s private property.

What materials do not qualify for special pickup?

Public Works will not collect fridges, tires, paints, solvents, or other hazardous materials or loose soil, earth, rocks, etc.

New collection service for fridges

Thanks to GoRecycle, Montreal West residents can now take advantage of a free home collection service for refrigerators, freezers, wine cellars, and wine coolers they wish to dispose of. This service allows for responsible management of these appliances while contributing to environmental protection.

Each refrigeration appliance contains halocarbons, harmful gases that are detrimental to the environment. By entrusting your appliance to GoRecycle, you help prevent the emission of about 1 ton of greenhouse gases.

How to participate?
Simply make an online request and follow the easy instructions from GoRecycle.

If you are home when the estimation takes place, you can pay the Public Works representative directly by cheque (payable to the Town of Montreal West). Otherwise, payment can be made by cash, cheque, or debit at Town Hall. Town Hall will notify Public Works once the payment has been received.

Public Works will not collect tires, paints, solvents, or other hazardous materials or loose soil, earth, rocks, etc.
