During the December 15 Council meeting, portfolios were assigned to each Council member, as outlined below. These portfolios address day-to-day operations and the strategic orientations that guide the decisions and actions of the Town of Montreal West. Elected officials do not replace staff, but rather stay informed about files, develop relationships with the community and partnerships, chair committees, learn about best practices and opportunities, report to council, and contribute through their actions to achieving the Town’s objectives. While specific files are assigned to councillors, all files will be worked on collaboratively by all council members.

Mayor: Governance and urban development

The Mayor will be responsible for files relating to governance, communications, partnerships, strategic planning, and all major real estate developments and land-use planning projects, including the revitalization of Westminster Avenue.

Seat 1: Finance and Bilingual status

The Councillor for seat 1 will be responsible for files related to finance (budgets, revenues, taxes, grants), the Clerk’s office (requests, claims), procurement (monitoring of goods and services contracts), and the promotion and protection of the Town’s bilingual status. She will also assume the duties of Pro-Mayor for the first four-month term. In addition, she will serve as an alternate member of the PAC.

Seat 2: Ecological transition, urban planning and citizen participation

The Councilor for seat 2 will handle files related to the environment, sustainable development and climate resilience, urban planning, inclusion, families, seniors, and recreational activities, namely educational and cultural programming. She will also lead community engagement initiatives with residents.

Seat 3 : Asset management and economic development

The Councillor for seat 3 will handle files related to asset management and improvement (equipment, infrastructure, facilities), public works, and economic development, with a focus on the commercial revitalization of Westminster Avenue.

Seat 4 : Sustainable mobility and sports

The Councillor for seat 4 will be responsible for sustainable mobility (ensuring the environmentally responsible coexistence of different modes of transportation), public safety, level crossing compliance, and the development of sports programs, as well as the Sports and Recreation Centre.
