This spring, the Town will launch its municipal tree-planting campaign aimed at beautifying Montreal West, strengthening local biodiversity, and building a more resilient urban forest.
How does it work?
Interested residents may sign up to have a tree planted on the public right-of-way next to their property at no cost. Requests must be received by February 20, 2026 to allow adequate time to plan the planting work.
Following your request, our team will carry out a site assessment to confirm whether planting is feasible. This assessment takes the following into account, among other things:
- the available ground space;
- the required clearance from overhead power lines and other aerial infrastructure;
- the presence of underground structures or utilities;
- proximity to other trees, sidewalks, and driveways.
If planting is deemed feasible and safe, we will contact you to propose three suitable options. These are native trees that are tolerant of urban conditions, compatible with site constraints, and that contribute to canopy diversity.
Tree planting, maintenance, and follow-up are entirely handled by the Town of Montreal West.
Benefits for residents
- Enhanced aesthetic value of the street and your property frontage;
- Increased shade during the summer;
- Improved air quality and reduced heat-island effects;
- A direct contribution to a more diverse, healthy, and resilient urban forest.
