Support a strong and active community

The new Sports and Recreation Centre is opening gradually to serve our community and offer meaningful, accessible sport and recreation activities that foster wellbeing for residents of all ages.

Fundraising progress

As of February 2026, the fundraising campaign for the Sports and Recreation Centre has raised 2.4 million in commitments, with $1.77 already collected.

This remarkable support came from Montreal West residents, former residents, non-residents and foundations including the Molson Foundation and the R. Howard Webster Foundation. Their generosity played a key role in making the new facility a cornerstone of the Montreal West community.

Donations are still welcome from anyone who would like to support the Sports and Recreation Centre.

Here are the different ways you can make a donation:

  • Make a donation online
  • For donations over $1 000, donate here
  • Make a donation by cash or cheque at the Town Hall service counter (50 Westminster Avenue South, Montreal West, H4X 1Y1) or at the John A. Simms Community Centre (8 Westminster Avenue South, Montreal West, H4X 1Y5)
  • Consider a naming opportunity. A small number of naming opportunities remain available, including dressing rooms, the gymnasium, multipurpose rooms, and more. This is a unique chance to leave a lasting legacy in our community. If you are interested, please contact Andy Michelin, Chair of the Capital Campaign for more information.

About the Capital Campaign

Andy Michelin, whose ties to Montreal West run deep, is the current campaign chair. Preceding him is Scott MacKenzie, who acted as chair of the campaign from May 2021 – March 2024.

To ensure transparency and integrity throughout the fundraising process, the Town established an independent governance structure. A steering committee, composed of the campaign chair and dedicated volunteers, reviewed and received all donations. A separate Donation Review Committee oversaw the administrative process and its implementation. The fundraising campaign was created to reduce the tax burden on citizens, diversify funding sources, and strengthen the sense of belonging among all partners.
