With the return of the school year, our streets are once again busier with students walking, biking, and being dropped off at school. This is a great time to remind ourselves of the simple steps we can all take to help keep our community safe this fall.
- Drivers: slow down near schools and crosswalks, yield to pedestrians, and stay alert, especially during drop-off and pick-up times.
- Pedestrians: always use marked crosswalks, cross with a crossing guard when possible, make eye contact with drivers before crossing, check the second traffic lane that may be blocked by a stopped car in the lane closest to you, and avoid distractions like phones when stepping onto the road.
- Cyclists: ride predictably, signal before turning, and wear reflective gear to stay visible.
The City of Côte Saint-Luc has shared a video about how to cross safely at a crosswalk. We invite you to take a moment to watch it with your family, it’s a helpful reminder for both pedestrians and drivers on how to navigate these important intersections with care.
