Montreal West’s beautifully decorated homes and strong community spirit make it a popular place to trick-or-treat! As you make your way from house to house, keep these safety tips in mind to help everyone enjoy a fun and safe Halloween evening.

  • Visit homes along one side of the street before crossing to the other to avoid repeatedly crossing the road.
  • Cross at intersections or marked crosswalks. Never cross between parked cars.
  • Choose a costume that fits properly and does not drag on the ground, so children can walk without tripping. Use face paint instead of a mask whenever possible to keep their view clear.
  • Help children be seen: add reflective tape or stickers to costumes and bags, choose light-coloured costumes when possible, and carry a flashlight or glow stick.
  • Keep warm and dry.
  • Older children going without an adult should stay with their group and stick to familiar streets.
  • Stay outside while trick-or-treating, never enter someone’s home.
  • Save treats until you get home, and have an adult check all Halloween sweets before children eat them.
  • Drivers: slow down and watch carefully for children at intersections and along the roadside. Be vigilant.

Happy Halloween!
