Fall is coming: last chance to plant a tree this year!

Category : Environment
August 19, 2026

Once again this year, the Town of Montreal West is offering two tree planting initiatives available to residents to help beautify our community, strengthen local biodiversity, and build a more resilient urban forest.

1. Municipal tree planting – free

Would you like to have a tree planted on the public right-of-way in front of your property?

Montreal West residents can sign up to request the free planting of a municipal tree on the public right-of-way adjacent to their property. Following your request, our team will conduct a site assessment to confirm whether planting is feasible. Tree planting, maintenance, and follow-up are entirely handled by the Town of Montreal West.

Deadline to submit a request: August 28, 2026

2. The $20 tree giveaway is back!

Would you also like to add some greenery to your private property? The $20 Tree Giveaway is back this fall! Montreal West residents can purchase a tree for an administrative fee of only $20.

The trees will be delivered at the end of September, an e-mail will be sent to let you know the exact date. The tree will be placed in front of your property on that day. Residents must plant the trees themselves on their property in Montreal West, and not elsewhere (for example at their cottage). Planting instructions will be provided. Please note that these trees cannot be planted on the municipal right-of-way, i.e. the space between the property line and the sidewalk.

Quantities are limited, and trees will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Maximum of one tree per address.

Which tree species are available?

The tree species being offered this fall are indicated below.

  • White Spruce (Picea glauca)
  • Tamarack (Larix laricina)
  • Bur Oak / Blue Oak (Quercus macrocarpa)
  • Nannyberry (Viburnum lentago)
  • American Hophornbeam (Ostrya virginiana)
  • Common Hackberry (Celtis occidentalis)

Trees can be ordered directly from Amilia. When you place your tree order, you will be able to pay for the tree by credit card in the online checkout. You will be required to create an Amilia account or log into your existing Amilia account with the Town. Alternatively, you may call the Environment division at 514-485-8599 to place an order.
