Weather alert : freezing rain

Category : Public Security
March 10, 2026

A mix of winter weather is expected in the Greater Montreal area from Wednesday, March 11 to Thursday, March 12, with the possibility of 20 to 30 mm of freezing rain.

Our Public Works crew will be fully deployed before and throughout the event. Their main interventions will focus on keeping roads and sidewalks safe and passable through extensive salting, and on limiting the buildup of ice across the network.

Consider postponing or cancelling all non‑essential travel. If you must go out, exercise caution to avoid falls and hazardous driving conditions.

As extended power outages may occur, residents are advised to take the necessary steps to be prepared.

Administrative offices closed Wednesday

Service counters at our municipal buildings will be closed on Wednesday, March 11, as staff will be working from home. To accommodate this temporary change, Town Hall will be open to the public on Friday, March 13 until 1 p.m.

During this period, we encourage residents to contact us by email. You may also leave a voicemail, and a staff member will return your call. Our team remains available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

What to do now

  • Monitor the weather alerts and warnings issued for your region
  • Charge your cellphone and all electronic devices as soon as difficult weather conditions are announced. If you own an electric vehicle, make sure it is charged as well.
  • Prepare a home emergency kit that can meet the needs of your household for at least 3 days in case you cannot leave your home safely.
  • Keep the following items in an easily accessible location:
    • flashlight and spare batteries
    • battery-powered radio
    • candles
    • fondue burner with recommended fuel
    • lighter or matches
    • warm blanket
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning: Never use fuel-burning appliances (propane, gasoline, barbecues, lamps, space heaters, patio heaters, generators, etc. indoors). If you are using a generator, install it outside, in a ventilated location, far from doors and windows.

Fallen branches

Heavy ice buildup can cause tree branches to break and fall. If branches fall on your property, please follow these guidelines:

  • There is no need to contact the Town to report branches on the ground.
  • Call dispatch (514-630-1234) if the situation is dangerous or requires immediate assistance from Town crews.
  • If a branch or tree is touching power lines, contact Hydro-Québec.

To check the status of power outages, visit the Hydro-Quebec website.

The Town is monitoring the situation closely and will modify its operations as the weather evolves.
