Street Art in Montreal : its origins  and evolution

    June 16 2026 at 2:00 pm

    Sports and Recreation Centre

Free lecture given by: Archie Fineberg (author, photographer)

Join us when Archie Fineberg leads us on a fascinating exploration of Montreal's engaging outdoor art galleries, tracing the evolution of public street art from its origins to its sophisticated modern expressions.

In this presentation, Fineberg will share his extensive knowledge of the street art movement in general and explains its rich complexity and its fascinating history. His PowerPoint slide show and commentary offer a unique focus on the career and philosophy of innovative Montreal artist Laurent Gascon. Over his prolific and innovative 60-year career, Gascon has enriched the city's urban landscape, focusing his talents on creating magnificent, large-scale ceramic tile mosaic portraits that immortalize iconic Quebec cultural figures.

Archie will also reveal Gascon’s little known unusual techniques and some entertaining and impressive stories about many of his subjects.

    Sports and Recreation Centre

    As of 6:00 p.m.

    • Come meet our incredible summer team, including camp counsellors and pool staff.

    PERFORMANCES
    6:00 p.m. Roving percussions by KUMPA'NIA.
To the sound of original compositions inspired by Brazilian, Cuban, and African rhythms, the group comes alive like a spirited, offbeat percussion ensemble, enhanced by playful choreography and exuberant costumes.

7:00 p.m. Circus show: Camion d'intervention artistique by Bazar Création
A siren sounds, a fire truck appears. Mobilized, the firefighters deploy the hundred-foot ladder for a rescue. False alarm. Back in their familiar routine, their precise, everyday movements gradually transform into a metaphorical and theatrical circus where everything is turned upside down. The encounter between two worlds deeply rooted in the collective imagination capitalizes on shifting sets and a rich emotional scale. Eight artists and a fire truck come together to provide a captivating experience that wavers between the ordinary and extraordinary and reinvents the imagination.
An event presented as part of CAM en tournée.

In case of rain, the event will be moved indoors at the Sports and Recreation Centre and the circus show will be cancelled.

On stage, Junes delivers an embodied electro-pop set driven by a streamlined and effective format: vocals, electronics, and live drums. Accompanied by her drummer, she builds a performance that is both organic and danceable, where electronic textures meet the raw energy of live playing. The beats come alive, grooves breathe, and each track intensifies through a carefully crafted lighting design where nothing is left to chance.

Blending “electro club” moments with more intimate, emotionally driven passages, Junes moves effortlessly through rich dynamics, highlighting the strength of her lyrics and her connection with the audience. Her stage presence—both confident and vulnerable—creates a direct and sincere bond with her listeners.

Conceived as a true emotional journey, the show alternates between tension and release, catchy hooks and soaring rhythms, all supported by a contemporary electro-pop aesthetic suited to both festival stages and indoor venues. A powerful, vibrant, and distinctly modern live performance.
