The new Sports and Recreation Centre is located at 220 Bedbrook Avenue, the site of the former Montreal West pool and Legion Memorial Rink.
The previous arena and outdoor pool, originally built in 1964, had far exceeded their intended 40–50 year lifespan. Structural deterioration, air‑quality concerns, and significant accessibility limitations made it increasingly difficult to meet modern safety standards and community expectations.
These aging facilities could no longer support current recreational needs or provide the level of service our residents deserve. For these reasons, the buildings were demolished and rebuilt on the same site, creating a modern, accessible, and sustainable facility designed to support the community’s health, well‑being, and quality of life for decades to come.
Construction began in September 2023 with the demolition of the existing infrastructure and was completed in January 2026.
For details on programming, amenities, and current services offered at the new facility please visit the Sports and Recreation Centre webpage.

Updated July 10, 2024
Water has been cut to residents on Bedbrook Avenue and surrounding streets. This is due to a pipe being punctured at the New Sports and Recreation construction site.
The damage is being evaluated and will inform when water will be restored to these residences.
Water service has been restored. A boil water advisory is in effect for the homes that were affected.
Update: The watermain has been repaired and the boil water advisory is no longer in effect.
September 4, 2024 – In the coming days, the frequency and volume of truck traffic in the Bedbrook and Nelson area will significantly increase. These activities are necessary for the transportation of materials to the ongoing Sports and Recreation Centre construction site.
The increased volume and frequency of traffic, which is essential to the advancement of the project, will extend over a period of a few weeks. The Town is working closely with the contractor in charge of the work to minimize the impact on the community as much as possible. We are implementing all possible measures to reduce disruptions and ensure that the work proceeds under the best possible conditions.
We thank you for your understanding and patience during this period.
