The upcoming municipal election will take place on Sunday, November 2, 2025. An election for all seats at the municipal council must be held every four years, the first Sunday of November in all Québec municipalities.

The municipal general election allows Montreal West residents who have the right to vote, to choose the people who will represent them for a 4 year mandate. Portfolios are not assigned to specific seat numbers and are assigned by the Mayor after the election.

For the application of certain provisions of the law, please note that Montreal West is a municipality with a population of more than 5,000 residents.

VOTERS

You will vote for one person among the candidates running for office. You will need to vote for more than one position in the election, specifically, for the position of mayor and for three councillors (one councillor was elected by acclamation).

Where and when to vote?

You can vote in the advance poll or on polling day.

  • Advance Poll: Sunday, October 26 from noon to 8 p.m. at Elizabeth Ballantyne School (314 Northview)
  • Polling Day: Sunday, November 2, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Royal West Academy (189 Easton)

You can bring the notice of entry or the reminder card you received in the mail. It’s not mandatory, but it helps election officers direct you to the right place more quickly. Make sure to bring one of the accepted identification documents:

  • Québec driver’s license
  • Québec health insurance card
  • Canadian passport
  • Certificate of Indian status
  • Canadian Forces identification card

To vote, you must meet the following conditions on election day:

  • Your name must be entered on the list of electors.
    • You are responsible to confirm your entry and ensure that your information is up to date
  • You must be 18 years of age or older
  • You must be a Canadian citizen
  • You must not have lost your right to vote by a tutorship judgment

On election day, you must also meet one of the following two conditions, depending on your domiciliary address.

  1. If your home is located in the municipality, you must:
    • Have lived in Québec for at least six months.
  2. If your domicile is not located in the municipality, you must:
    • Own a building or occupy a business establishment located on the territory of the municipality since September 18, 2025

Board of revisors

You’ll need to appear before the Board of Revisors if you must register on the municipal list of electors or if you notice any inaccurracies on the notice of entry.

  • October 9 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Town Hall

All members of the electoral personnel will be required to attend training sessions, which will be held during the evening time. VOTE BY MOBILE POLLING STATION

You are in a recognized health care facility or you are domiciled on the territory of the municipality and you are unable to move about for health reasons?

You may apply to vote in your room or domicile. You can also modify your entry on the list of electors.

If you are eligible for this service, election officers will come to your domicile so you can exercise your right to vote.

Your informal caregiver could also vote at the same time, if they are entered in the same polling subdivision as you on the list of electors. Contact your returning officer for more information.

The vote by mobile polling station will take place on October 24, 2025.

How do you submit your request?

Requests must be submitted in writing by using the Application to vote by mobile polling station form available below or at Town Hall and received no later than October 14.  Written requests may be submitted:

  • in-person at Town Hall during the hours it is opened to the public or by leaving the application form in the mailbox at the front door.

The Informer presents Meet the Candidates

The Informer is sponsoring a Meet the Candidates evening. The event will be moderated by resident Julie Ducharme and will also be live-streamed on the Informer YouTube channel. Here is a summary of how the evening will unfold:

  • Each candidate will present their platform in the first part of the evening (7:30pm to – 8:15pm).
  • Question period will begin thereafter; each question will be addressed to all candidates running for a particular seat.
  • Important: Seats on our Town Council are not yet assigned any specific responsibilities or files. As such, you are electing the people you feel will be best capable of representing or working for you and your interests, regardless of the file they will be assigned. Who will manage the individual files will be determined by the mayor after the election. 
  • Note that this is not a debate
  • Online questions can be submitted in advance via the Google  form, which will be open until Wednesday, October 15 at 5pm
  • Please note that, depending on the number of questions received online, we may not be able to ask all questions submitted. Also, if there are multiple questions on one topic, organizers reserve the right to aggregate them.
