{"id":93496,"date":"2026-06-29T16:35:39","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T20:35:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/montreal-west.ca\/?p=93496"},"modified":"2026-06-29T17:37:04","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T21:37:04","slug":"stay-cool-and-safe-during-the-heat-wave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/montreal-ouest.ca\/en\/stay-cool-and-safe-during-the-heat-wave\/","title":{"rendered":"Stay cool and safe during the heat wave"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With the upcoming\u00a0heat\u00a0wave\u00a0in the Greater Montreal area, residents are reminded to take extra precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones from extreme temperatures.<\/p>\n<h3>Cooling stations<\/h3>\n<p>The Sports and Recreation Centre offers an air-conditioned space and will be open to the public daily from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the heat wave.<\/p>\n<p>Residents of all ages are also welcome to cool off at the municipal pool and splash pads:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Municipal pool, 220 Bedbrook<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/montreal-ouest.ca\/en\/recreation\/facilities-parks\/municipal-pool\/\">Regular season schedule<\/a> is in effect.<\/li>\n<li>Please note that the pool will be closed to the public as of 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, for a swim meet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">Splash pads<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Paula Cordeau Park:<\/strong> 7 a.m. \u2013 9 p.m.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Strathearn Park:<\/strong> 7 a.m. \u2013 10 p.m.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rugby Park:<\/strong> 7 a.m. \u2013 10 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During extreme heat, residents can take the following steps to stay safe:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drink water regularly, don\u2019t wait until you\u2019re thirsty.<\/li>\n<li>Spend a few hours each day in an air-conditioned or cool location.<\/li>\n<li>Take a refreshing shower or bath or cool down with a wet towel.<\/li>\n<li>Limit physical activity, especially outdoors.<\/li>\n<li>Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing.<\/li>\n<li>Keep in touch with family and friends, particularly those more vulnerable to the heat.<\/li>\n<li>Close windows, curtains, and blinds when the sun is strongest.<\/li>\n<li>Limit the use of heat-producing appliances (stove, oven, dryer, TV, lights, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>Avoid alcoholic, caffeinated, or sugary drinks, which can lead to dehydration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Residents are encouraged to make use of available cooling options and to check in on family, friends, and neighbours who may be more vulnerable to the heat.<\/p>\n<h3>Other resources<\/h3>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\"><b data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Health Info at 811, Option 1:<\/b><\/div>\n<ul data-editing-info=\"{&quot;applyListStyleFromLevel&quot;:true}\">\n<li>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\" role=\"presentation\">Regional service that provides advice and referrals for people with non-urgent health problems.
