{"id":74379,"date":"2024-02-28T17:26:53","date_gmt":"2024-02-28T21:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/montreal-west.ca\/?p=74379"},"modified":"2024-02-28T17:26:54","modified_gmt":"2024-02-28T21:26:54","slug":"new-waste-regulations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/montreal-ouest.ca\/en\/new-waste-regulations\/","title":{"rendered":"New Waste Regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>During the Town Hall held on Monday, February 26, 2024, the Town adopted bylaw \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/montreal-west.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/2024-001-C.C.-amendement-au-reglement-GMR.pdf\">No. 2024-001<\/a> amending its waste bylaw. The amendments were made and adopted to reduce the amount of waste generated in the Town.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative stems from the <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal-west.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2022-2026-RMM-Action-Plan.pdf\">2022-2026 Residual Materials Management Action Plan<\/a>. Under this plan, the Town has committed to moving towards zero waste and increase the rate of residual materials diverted from landfill.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the amendments will reduce the size of eligible <u>garbage<\/u> bins from 360 to 240 litres and ban garbage bags being placed at the curb, outside of the bin. Most households already use a 240-litre garbage bin, but some will have to buy one to comply. To this end, the Town has also adopted bylaw <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal-west.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/2024-002-C.C.-programme-de-remise-sur-bacs-a-dechets.pdf\">No. 2024-002<\/a> which introduces a financial assistance program to help mitigate the costs associated with the purchase of the new garbage bin.<\/p>\n<p>Key points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Garbage allowances have been reduced (<a href=\"https:\/\/montreal-west.ca\/en\/disposal-of-garbage-green-waste-and-recyclables\/\">see detailed list of allowances here<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>It is prohibited to put garbage bags outside the bin for collection<\/li>\n<li>These rules will come into force on May 1, 2024<\/li>\n<li>The frequency of garbage, compost and recycling collections will remain the same<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal-west.ca\/en\/disposal-of-garbage-green-waste-and-recyclables\/\">New Waste Regulations<\/a> webpage to learn more about garbage allowances and the rebate program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During the Town Hall held on Monday, February 26, 2024, the Town adopted bylaw \u00a0No. 2024-001 amending its waste bylaw.
