The Town of Montreal West officially inaugurated its new Sports and Recreation Centre on January 30, 2026 at 220 Bedbrook avenue, Montreal West. The inauguration ceremony included official remarks, a ribbon-cutting, and a tour of the facilities, and was held in the presence of municipal, provincial, and federal representatives, as well as several key contributors.<\/p>\n

Designed to meet both current and future needs, the Sports and Recreation Centre will provide residents with modern, functional, and accessible facilities, contributing to an improved quality of life in the Town of Montreal West.<\/p>\n

A historic investment for generations to come<\/strong><\/p>\n

The project represents a total investment of $39.2 million and was carried out by the Town of Montreal West with the support from the Ministry of Education in the amount of $ 10,045,381 through the Programme d\u2019aide financi\u00e8re aux infrastructures r\u00e9cr\u00e9atives et sportives<\/em> (PAFIRS), and from Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada in the amount of $6,278,363.50 under the Investing in Canada plan, stemming from the Integrated Bilateral Agreement between federal and provincial governments. Additional funding was provided by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities\u2019 Green Municipal Fund, an endowment created by the Government of Canada.<\/p>\n

Construction began in August 2023 and was completed in January 2026.<\/p>\n

The building also incorporates universal accessibility measures, allowing everyone, regardless of age or mobility, to fully enjoy the facilities. Designed with climate resilience in mind, the project incorporates innovative features that reduce environmental impact and strengthen long-term durability in the face of future weather conditions. These measures underscore the Town\u2019s commitment to responsible, inclusive, and sustainable development.<\/p>\n

The Steve and Rob Michelin ice rink opened on February 1st, with the remainder of the centre becoming accessible later this spring.<\/p>\n
