Remember, there will be many dogs at the park of different breeds, sizes, temperaments and training. Be certain your dog plays well with others before entering!

Pause before entering the dog park: before rushing into the park, make sure you enter the first gate with your dog still on a leash. Pause, make sure there are not multiple dogs at the second gate, and only then remove the leash off your dog and let him/her enter. This process might avoid a dog scuffle while entering the park.

Once inside the park, pay attention: pay attention to your dog’s body language and ensure s/he is comfortable and not feeling threatened. If you sense any tension or trouble brewing, call your dog back. Be alert for dogfights!

Don’t lose track of your dog: although a dog park is also a wonderful place for humans to socialize, don’t get distracted and lose track of your dog! Always clean up your dog(s)’ poop, repair any holes s/he digs, and immediately take charge if s/he is getting into trouble! Be alert at all times. You are responsible for your dog’s behaviour.

Do not bring dog treats: dogs can react in an unpredictable way, and many dogs have dietary restraints.

Do not bring dog toys other than tennis balls: toys can provoke possessiveness and even aggression among otherwise friendly dogs… and owners!

Keep your dog hydrated: although the park has a water drinking fountain for humans and dogs, the water will be shut down from October to April to avoid frozen pipes. Feel free to bring water and a bowl to the park during this time.

Do not infest the park: if your dog has fleas or other types of parasites, keep him/her home until s/he is healthy again. If your dog is ill, keep him/her at home until s/he is better.

Let’s all take care of the park: we have waited for a long time for a dog park in Montreal West. Let’s make sure it’s a pleasure for all by keeping it clean, safe, and most of all, fun!

Be a good neighbour: please be respectful of your neighbours.
