Testing and monitoring is carried out regularly to detect any presence of bacteria, metals or other pollutants, as well as to measure mineral content (water hardness).<\/p><h2>WATER-BOIL ADVISORY<\/h2><p>Durin a water-boil advisory, residents should boil water for at least 1 minute before drinking. Tap water can still be used for showers and baths and washing clothes.<br \/><br \/>A follow up notice will be issued once water quality returns to normal and the advisory is lifted.<\/p><p><strong>Boil water instructions<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Water that has been boiled for one full minute, or bottled water, must be used for the following purposes, until further notice:<ul><li>Drinking and preparing beverages<\/li><li>Preparing bottles and baby food<\/li><li>For washing and preparing food to be eaten raw (fruits, vegetables, etc.)<\/li><li>For preparing food that does not require long cooking<\/li><li>For making ice cubes<\/li><li>For brushing your teeth or rinsing your mouth<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Dispose of ice cubes, refrigerator water dispensers, or foods prepared after the date of the advisory with unboiled tap water.<\/li><li>You may use unboiled tap for the following activities:<ul><li>For washing your hands with soap (making sure to dry them well)<\/li><li>For washing dishes in hot water (making sure to dry them well)<\/li><li>For washing clothes<\/li><li>For showering or bathing (being careful not to swallow the water and to wash young children with a washcloth)<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p>SCHOOLS, COMPANIES, COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS AND INSTITUTIONS SERVED BY THE WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM:<\/p><ul><li>Shut off all water fountains<\/li><li>Notify your clientele that the water isn&#8217;t safe for drinking or any other consumption, and post this information at locations where water is still available.<\/li><\/ul><p>If you have questions regarding this notice, just call 311, at any time. For health-related questions, contact Info-Sant\u00e9 at 514 521-2100. In case of any emergency, call 9-1-1.<\/p><h2>Water tax\u00a0<\/h2><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal-west.ca\/en\/finance-administration\/taxes-evaluation\/water-tax\/\">annual water tax<\/a> is calculated based on water consumption. If you require help reading your water meter, please <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal-west.ca\/en\/our-town\/contact-the-town-and-opening-hours\/?service=Public%20Works\">contact Public Works<\/a>. In the case of a broken meter, a new meter will be provided and installed for you by the Town.<\/p><h2>Residential shut off<\/h2><p>Residents should <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal-west.ca\/en\/our-town\/contact-the-town-and-opening-hours\/?service=Public%20Works\">contact Public Works<\/a> at least 3 business days in advance of the anticipated work to book an appointment with the Town plumber.\u00a0Please note that calls made less than three business days in advance of scheduled work are likely to be denied.\u00a0 An additional charge to a resident may result from improper planning for residential plumbing work.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Montreal is responsible for the production and distribution of potable water to the Town of Montreal West.
