These regulations require that all pools and spas built before November 1, 2010 comply with the new standards by fall 2026.<\/h3><p>The main aim of the by-law is to control access by young children to residential swimming pools with measures such as installing a fence with a safety gate. A municipal permit is also required for any work relating to the installation of a swimming pool and the fitting out of adjoining equipment, such as a terrace, platform or enclosure.<\/p><p>In June 2024, the Town sent a letter to property owners with a swimming pool and\/or spa informing them of the new regulations and the steps to be taken to ensure that their facilities are compliant.<\/p><h2>Quebec clarifies the application of certain requirements of the Act<\/h2><p>July 2025 update: The Ministry has recently updated its documents to provide clarifications regarding the application of certain requirements of the Residential Pool Safety Act.<\/p><p>These changes clarify certain provisions of the Act to help property owners and municipal officers apply and comply with them more easily.<\/p><p>They mainly concern:<\/p><ul><li>requirements for doors and windows that form part of an enclosure<\/li><li>Installation standards for double gates within a pool enclosure<\/li><li>Minimum height requirements for guardrails on decks providing pool access or on balconies without external exits.<\/li><\/ul><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.quebec.ca\/habitation-territoire\/piscines-et-spas\/securite-piscines-residentielles\/securisez-piscine\" target=\"blank\">Consult the most recent documents<\/a> on the Ministry website <em>(in French only)<\/em><\/p><p>The government has made a number of tools available to the public to help ensure that residential swimming pools comply with current standards:<\/p><ul><li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn-contenu.quebec.ca\/cdn-contenu\/adm\/min\/affaires-municipales\/publications\/ministere\/securite_piscines_residentielles\/GUI_InspecteurPiscineResidentielle.pdf\">Guide d&#8217;application du R\u00e8glement<\/a> (French only)<\/em> is a source of information for any owner wishing to install or replace a residential pool.
