Montreal West: an Age-Friendly Town<\/h2>

Launched in 2007 by the World Heath Organization, an age-friendly Town encourages all residents to be active within their community and to be treated with respect, regardless of their age.<\/h3>

The Town of Montreal West is proud to announce that it has received its Age-Friendly Town (Municipalit\u00e9 amie des a\u00een\u00e9s \u2013 MADA) certification in June 2022! This recognition by the Minist\u00e8re de la sant\u00e9 et des services sociaux confirms our commitment towards making our Town a better, safer and more caring Town for residents of all ages.<\/p>

This concludes the accreditation process<\/a>, which spanned 2.5 years and included multiple meetings of the MADA Steering Committee, public consultations with residents, and the drafting and implementation of a\u00a0policy and action plan.<\/p>

Self-guided walks through Montreal West<\/h2>

Looking for a fresh way to explore the town? This series of six mapped walks is just the ticket. Born from an idea at our Seniors Advisory Consultation in October 2023, and brought to life by Fred Braman, Montreal West resident and Seniors Advisory Committee member with a passion for walking and local history, these routes offer more than just step counts and scenic strolls\u2014they’re journeys through the Town\u2019s rich past.<\/p>

Ranging from 2.6 km to 4 km, each walk invites you to discover the stories, landmarks, and hidden corners that have shaped our community over time. Lace up your shoes and take a walk down memory lane.<\/p>

Conference on dementia<\/h2>

During his presentation at Town Hall on April 12, 2025, Dr. Serge Gauthier, a clinical neurologist, explained the new findings on modifiable risk factors for dementia and how addressing them can prevent or delay disease progression.<\/p>

Forever Young: living and aging in Montreal West (podcast)<\/h2>

This podcast is made by a group at the Montreal West Public Library. Our aim is to build a living toolbox to let Montrealers know about resources available to those over 60.
