Complementing the Town’s municipal services, a number of local organizations offer a variety of activities to Montreal West residents of all ages.

The Montreal West Civic Recreation Association is a non-profit organization which offers a variety of sports/leisure activities for children and youth in Montreal West. The Town has responsibility for the facilities used while the CRA has responsibility for the registration, programming and implementation of activities. The Community Services Council is an incorporated body of citizens designed to assist the Councillor of Recreation and Cultural Services. The CSC advises, assists and makes recommendations to this Councillor on matters pertaining to cultural and recreational needs and activities in the Town. As a non-profit organization, the CSC searches and applies for grants and then appoints personnel to administer the provincial and federal grants  made available to the community.

This group examines financial reports of cultural and recreational groups of the Town who receive funding to recommend their continued support. Their decision is passed on to the Town Council for consideration.

Members of the CSC

All members must be residents of the Town and include :

  • the Mayor of the Town, who is an honorary member,
  • the Councillor of Recreation and Cultural Services,
  • the Director of Recreation and Cultural Services.

The voting members include :

  • an active representative of the senior community,
  • a designated representative of the Civic Recreation Association,
  • a designated representative of the Informer,
  • a designated representative of parents with young children,
  • a designated representative of the youth of the Town,
  • five persons appointed taking into consideration the three distinct sections of the Town.

The Montreal West Curling Club is a fun and active curling club which has been rocking the sheets for over 100 years! Come join us for a fun-filled season of great curling and special events!

Girl Guides of Canada is the leading organization for girls and women in Canada that invites girls and young woman to actively shape their own experience as they build the confidence to take on challenges. Guiding offers the widest range of activities of any extracurricular activity, with opportunities to explore the arts, sciences, outdoor challenges, global awareness and so much more through enriching experiences that will stay with them for a lifetime. The program provides the catalyst for girls empowering girls to discover themselves and be everything they want to be all in a safe, supportive, inclusive space.

Fees

$140/year plus handling fee of $4.00 per family

Dues and the selling of Girl Guide cookies help to support the unit. Camping trips and other activities are self financed. No girl is turned away due to financial difficulty. Feel free to discuss concerns with a leader in confidence.

Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated human rights purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. The Rotary Club of Montreal Westward has women and men from all backgrounds; some working, some retired, some semi-retired. Our members are: Piano Refurbisher’s, Pharmacists, Medical Doctors, Homemakers, Funeral Directors, Real Estate Agents, Aeronautical Engineers, Certified Financial Planners, Certified Financial Analysts, (we even have a lawyer or two), Management Consultants, a Psychologist, a Notary, Academics and Bankers. Somehow we are unable to attract grumpy people; it must be our sense of humor?

The Scouts Group fosters the aim of Scouts Canada to help youth and young adults to develop their character as resourceful and responsible members of the community by providing opportunities and guidance for their mental, physical, social, and spiritual development.

The program includes weekly meetings, field trips, camping, special training in Scouting skills, first aid and safety, visits to interesting places and exchanges with other groups. Each section responds to the needs of a particular age group. All sections are open to both boys and girls.

Registration is ongoing. Our group is officially called 1st Montreal West Scout Group. We are part of the Quebec Council, and Stoney Point Area. Age is determined as of September 30. Meetings are weekly, from September to May.

The Montreal West Tennis Club has four of the best Har-tru courts on the island, we offer lessons and clinics for all ages as well as round robins, tournaments and social events throughout the season. Beginners are welcome!
