Polling Day – November 5, 2017

 

Residents of Montreal West are invited to attend the announcement of election results Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Town Hall, located at 50 Westminster Avenue South.  The public addition of votes will begin after 10:00 p.m. in the Music Room and the doors of the Town Hall will be open at 9:00 p.m.

 

Notice that these results will be posted at http://www.electionsmunicipales.quebec/ and on the Town website.

 



Municipal Election 2017 – Withdrawal of a candidacy for mayor


Ms. Cynthia Nichols, mayoral candidate, submitted a written letter to the Returning Officer on November 2, 2017 to withdraw her candidacy for the position of mayor of the Town of Montreal West.

Where the withdrawal of a candidate occurs after the printing of ballot papers, the Returning Officer shall cause the particulars relating to that candidate to be uniformly crossed off the ballot papers by means of a line in ink or any other indelible substance. The Deputy Returning officer shall inform every elector to whom he gives such a ballot paper of the candidate’s withdrawal.

Any vote cast in favor of this candidate at the advance poll, is absolutely null.

Incumbent mayor Beny Masella and Norbert Bedoucha remain in the mayoral race for Sunday election day, November 5th.

Meet the Candidates Evening

Wednesday, October 25th is your chance to meet and ask questions of all of the candidates for Town Council: 7:30 pm in the Assembly Hall of the Town Hall. Sponsored by The Informer.


 

News about the Municipal Election

In order to exercise your right to vote, you must be registered on the electoral list before polling day. Voters can verify that they are registered by checking the electoral list as of October 4th, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Town Hall or at the Community Centre.

 

Prior to the revision period, each home will receive a notice informing the occupants of the names of voters already on the electoral list at their address, and telling them how to register, or to request a correction or deletion of names from the voters list.

 

A review board will hear such applications for entry and requests at the Town Hall (Music room) on Friday, October 13th from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm and Tuesday, October 17th, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

 

Voting will take place on Sunday, November 5th in the cafeteria of the Royal West Academy and the gymnasium at Edinburgh School from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Voters may also vote in the advance poll on Sunday, October 29th from noon to 8:00 pm at the Town Hall (Music Room).

 

There are four council seats and the mayor office which are open for nominations from 22nd September to 6th October. To run as a candidate, one must be an elector, not be legally prevented, and have resided in the Town for at last 12 months on September 1st, 2017.
